Jubileans Raise the Bar in the 2019 Intramurals

The opening of Intramurals 2019 was held at the Community Hall on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. The event was graced by the JCA Community eager to show their support to their respective teams as they showcase their athleticism and sports versatility. The Junior High School (JHS) and Senior High School (SHS) joint forces in demonstrating teamwork and unity in this years Intramurals titled “ELEVATE: Raising the Bar of Excellence and Teamwork in Sports for God’s Glory.”

The emcees of the event were Hannah Yabut of SHS and Josiah Tomas of 10-Solomon. Andrew Brian So, the JHS-Student Council (SC) President led the opening prayer. Then came the parade of intramural athletes from Grade 7 to 12. After which, Jacky P. JHS Principal, opened officially the 2019 Intramurals.

To promote further the school spirit, a pep rally was held featuring the various JCA Varsity Teams consist of the Chess Team; Swimming Team; Table Tennis Team; Badminton Team; Volleyball 14-U and 19-U Teams; and the Basketball 12-U, 14-U, 16-U, and 19-U Teams. Jadyne de Jesus, SHS-SC Secretary, led the prayer for the varsity teams. It was followed by a demonstration of the school cheer and a special performance from the Pep Squad.

Each grade level was challenged to come up with a batch yell which further spiced up the opening ceremonies. There were also Minute To Win It: I Dare games between Grades 7 to 9 and Grade 10 to 12. The games were made more exciting through the participation of the parents who were present to cheer for their children.

One of the highlights of the opening ceremonies was the Dance Evolution competition for the different JHS grade levels and the Flash Mob competition of the SHS. Grooving to the beat of songs such as Believer by Imagine Dragon and with their Class Advisers, the Grade 10 Blue Chips wowed the crowd with their performance. The Grade 9, not accepting deafest, donning their headbands and multicoloured bracelets, danced along to songs such as “Footloose” by Kenny Loggins and “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon. With a batch cheer and songs such as “We Built This City” by Starship and “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys, the Grade 8–wearing yellow shirts—entertained impressively the crowd. Last but not the least, the Grade 7—wearing green—performed to songs like “Sunflower” by Marshmello and “Good Time” by Carly Rae Jepsen and Owl City.

The Grade 11 also entertained the crowd with their fun performance featuring a horse mascot, a leash, and their Class Advisers while the Grade 12, along with their Teachers, performed to songs like “Switch It Up” by Lavaado and “Sally Walker” by Iggy Azalea.

Mrs. Nancy Ramos, SHS Principal, declared the Grade 8 and 11 as winners in their respective categories as decided by the board of judges composed of Mr. Marlon Bugayong, Student Activities (SA) Coordinators, Ms. Zetha Gavino, Level Coordinator, Ms. Kimberly Sadinas Elementary SA Coordinator, and a JCAPA Parent from the Elementary.

The Intramural same-day edit video documented by the SC Multimedia team featured all the event highlights. Ray Anthony Torres, SHS SC President, led the closing prayer. The opening games kicked off with the basketball game between Grade 8 and Grade 9 and the volleyball game between Grade 7 and 10.

 

Indeed, Intramurals is the perfect time for students to come together and be united in the spirit of sports.
